"Why Do I Need to Learn New Rules with Every RPG I Buy?"
That's the question I asked myself back in 1981, when I first began gaming.
At that time, each roleplaying game had its own set of rules. So I started
diddling with the rules with Tunnels & Trolls, which I considered to be much
more understandable than Dungeons & Dragons. I added some of my own rules to
T&T, and even tried to weave in some of I.C.E's Spellmaster rules.
What a mess.
So I dumped most of what I had done, and started over again. It took a lot of
work in my spare time, inventing and dumping several entire systems, but I
finally created my "perfect" system. One that would be capable of
handling anything that was thrown at it without breaking. SOL:
The Omniversal Roleplaying System was finally published in 1994. Unless you
are extremely lucky, you won't find this book on the market.
STEELTOWN is the first complete
roleplaying game made using the SOL sytem. At this time, plans are to have all
of Heraldic's games based on this system.
